Employee of the Month

Debra Wood, Unit Secretary, Maternal Child Services

September 2003

Working on the second floor in Maternal Child Services can be rewarding, as well as stressful. But regardless of how crazy things get in that department, Unit Secretary Debbie Wood seems to take all of it in stride. This was just one reason why the staff, management and volunteers of Maternal Child Services nominated her as employee of the month.

"She has an amazing way of knowing what the nurses need, even before we know what we need. It is amazing how she multitasks and keeps our unit running smoothly. Whenever we are faced with a dilemma, we know where to go to find the answer," her coworkers wrote in her nomination form. "She has a great working relationship with all of our doctors and they respect her for her knowledge and professionalism."

Debbie was honored at a celebration earlier this month where her supervisors, coworkers and volunteers gave several more reasons why she deserved the award.

One of her most prestigious accomplishments was earning top recognition from San Bernardino County for turning in more than 2,000 birth certificates to the county on time. People also commented on her "top-notch work ethic" and pointed out that she never complains about the varied tasks she is asked to do, even if they aren't in her job description.
