A Lasting Impression from their Newborns

Redlands Community Hospital

REDLANDS, CA  -  She may not be able to take her newborn baby home on Mother’s Day, but thanks to the nurses in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Redlands Community Hospital, Amanda Moore will take home a clay imprint of her baby Emily’s hands and feet to cherish until the day her baby is ready to come home. Nurses throughout the Maternal/Child Unit at the hospital, including Postpartum  and NICU, have prepared a special gift package for the newborn babies to give their moms on Mother’s Day, May 13.  The maternity nurses estimate there could be 32 newborn babies in the hospital on Sunday.

Each mom will receive a keepsake gift, which includes a kit to make a clay impression of her newborn’s hands and/or feet. The "Precious Imprint" kits will create a lasting memento of this special Mother’s Day.

In addition, the nurses have created hand-made Mother’s Day cards with the baby’s photograph. They laminated the cards and added ribbons and bows to the gift set.

"We wanted our mothers to receive a keepsake from their newborns on this special day in our hospital," said Pam Erickson, Director of Maternal/Child Services at Redlands Community Hospital. "We have the gift packages prepared for our NICU babies and other gift sets are awaiting the new babies yet to be born on Sunday."

The Maternal/Child Department is anxiously awaiting the completion of the hospital’s new building that will become the new home for their department. The building will be completed in the next 30 days. After licensure, it is anticipated that patients will start using the new building by late summer or early fall 2007. The three-story building will include both Surgery Services and Maternity Services.

Redlands Community Hospital is located at 350 Terracina Boulevard in Redlands. For information, please call (909) 335-5500.

Currently weighing only 2 lbs., 13 oz., all of Emily’s tiny hands and feet could fit into the molding kit.
