2006 Alice Raumin Award Winner

June McKenzie could not contain her emotions when she realized President and CEO Jim Holmes was describing her as this year’s Alice Raumin Award winner.

Another co-worker wrote, "She has a breathtaking amount of enthusiasm and dedication. I believe it is that energy that has allowed June to have such longevity in her wonderful nursing career."

Throughout the numerous nominations which were received on June’s behalf, consistently described her as an inspiration both as a nurse and as a human being. Another of her nominators stated, "She possesses the highest level of integrity and her professional standards are above reproach. Her dedication to patients and their families is an honor to witness. Their dignity and needs are June’s highest priority."

June had the pleasure of knowing Alice before her untimely death. The remaining RCH employees who knew Alice believe she would have been proud of this year’s selection to honor June.

Alice Raumin began her career at Redlands Community Hospital in 1963. Through her career as a night nurse, she progressed through various positions, later becoming Vice President of Nursing in 1976. Alice retired in September 1994 when she was diagnosed with advanced cancer. Upon Alice’s death, the Alice Raumin Award of Nursing Excellence was created.

The criteria for this award is based on traits that made Alice the very special person she was and the compassionate manner with which she dealt with patients and staff alike. Recipients are selected on the basis of their integrity, high professional standards, compassion, patient advocacy, enthusiasm and energy, not to mention loyalty to staff and the hospital.

Recipients of this award are selected by a committee representing nursing management and administration.
