Information for Clergy
Pastoral Care Service
Pastoral Care Service is the liaison between the hospital and area clergy. Clergy members are
welcome to visit members of their congregations to provide spiritual ministry. Clergy are
requested to come to the Pastoral Care Office to obtain information about their hospitalized
congregation members.
The Pastoral Care Assistant is in the office Monday – Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. A telephone
is located on the small table in the Pastoral Care reception area. It is here to serve your
needs. Outgoing calls may be made to Southern California numbers only. You may also receive
calls here at 909-335-5500, extension 6571.
Permanent Badge
You may contact the Assistant in Pastoral Care if you wish to obtain a permanent badge with your
photo identification that you will wear when visiting patients in the hospital. Otherwise, you
may receive a visitors badge and sign in and out each time you visit.
Pre-Op patients are now required to give a password at the time of admittance for the purpose of
security. Any family or Clergy wishing to visit must know the password. It is important that the
patient or family advise their Clergy at the time of admittance.
If there is any change in the mailing address, phone number, or pastoral staff, please notify us
so that our church directory may be updated. Voice mail is available to take messages when we are
not available. The Pastoral Care office telephone number is 909-335-5552.
Clergy Parking
You must display your identification prominently on the dashboard of your car (name and church). You
may park in spaces reserved for physicians (spaces marked “physician’s parking only”). These spaces
are located in the first row in front of the hospital and in an underground lot behind the Emergency
Department. If you are called to the Emergency Department, you may park in the Emergency Department
parking lot. You will be ticketed if you park in these areas without showing identification. The
handicapped parking area is for persons who are handicapped. Unauthorized parking in this area
can result in a fine of $250 or more. The parking lot is patrolled by the Redlands Police Department
and Redlands Community Hospital security staff.
Visiting Hours
Clergy are invited to see their Parishioners during visiting hours. Many find the late morning hours
convenient and appropriate. Patients may be involved in procedures throughout the day, so you may
want to leave a card or note if you miss them, or try again at a later time.
Doors/Security System
All doors into the hospital are locked from 8:00 pm to 5:30 am (except the entrance to the Emergency
Department). A security system has been put in place to protect our staff as well as our patients. You
may use the Emergency Department entrance, which is open 24 hours.
Lay Visitors
If your church, parish, or synagogue has an organized program for Lay Ministry, please send us a schedule,
along with the names of the persons who will be visiting so an appointment list of patients can be provided.
Other Services
Clergy who are interested in volunteer crises work at the hospital may volunteer on-call during the
evening and late night hours for emergencies (as their schedule permits, usually 2-4 nights per
month). If you are interested in this service, please call the Pastoral Care office.
Seminars, reflection times, and retreats are held annually. In addition, the Chaplain is
available for pulpit supply and will gladly speak in your church or synagogue. Please contact
the Pastoral Care office for further information.
