Paintings of the late Jean Cranmer to be showcased
Redlands Community Hospital Foundation to Host an “Evening with the Artists”
Event March 30
REDLANDS, CA – Jean Larson Cranmer died in 1996, but her spirit lives on through her watercolor and oil artworks which will be featured this March during the “Evening with the Artists” event at Redlands Community Hospital.
Cranmer, who was an active member of the Redlands art community, was an award-winning oil and watercolor painter who taught art classes at Redlands Adult School in her later life.
As a graduate of Stanford University in 1944, Cranmer served on the Watercolor West Board of Directors and was chairman of two of the organization’s national shows. She held other positions with the Redlands Art Association as an officer and director, was a member of the National Watercolor Society, and served on the board of directors of the San Bernardino County Museum’s Fine Arts Institute.
“I loved her freedom with transparent watercolor; particularly her rendering of flowers,” said fellow Redlands watercolor artist Pat Fullerton in a Redlands Daily Facts article from 2011. “She had a free approach to using watercolor to the best of its advantages together with deft strokes.”
Cranmer’s work joins local artists Patricia Rose Ford, Ginger Pena, Donal Jolley, and Paul Strahm at the annual ‘Evening of the Artists’ event this spring. Cranmer’s artwork will be available for purchase at the Stan and Ellen Weisser Education Pavilion from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Friday, March 30 and proceeds will benefit the Redlands Community Hospital Foundation art fund. Wine and hors d’oeuvres will also be served at the event during the elegant evening occasion. An entrance fee of $20 is payable at the door or in advance.
