REDLANDS, Calif. (December 13, 2019) -- Redlands Community Hospital honored over 275 volunteers for their dedication and service during its annual Auxiliary Holiday Brunch and Installation at the Orton Center at the University of Redlands.

Serving the hospital 18 years, Marcia Van Mouwerik was the recipient of the annual Mary Kimberly-Shirk Volunteer Award of Excellence. The award is presented to a volunteer who demonstrates leadership, enthusiasm, loyalty, energy and compassion for patients, families, physicians, and staff, as did Mary Kimberly-Shirk, the first member of the hospital’s Auxiliary.

Over her nearly two decades of volunteerism, Marcia has served as the as Auxiliary Special Projects Chair, Vice President of the Auxiliary, Parliamentarian, and Auxiliary President. She tended to the hospital’s patients and loved ones in the Surgery Waiting area, providing support and information to families during what can be one of the scariest of times in their lives. Marcia served in the Maternal Child Services, where her calming and reassuring presence is needed at one of life’s most exciting and stressful moments. In addition, Marcia has supported many special projects and events over the years such as health fairs, the Golf Classic, the Bicycle Classic, Evening with the Artists, Baby Day, and much more.

“The holidays are a time for reflection and celebration, and it’s an honor to start the season by recognizing the generosity and kindness that our volunteers bring to our patients, their families, our physicians, nurses and hospital staff,” said Jim Holmes, president and CEO of Redlands Community Hospital. “Their dedication, skills and talents make Redlands Community Hospital a more compassionate place to heal.”

The Auxiliary presented the Redlands Community Hospital Foundation with a $65,000 check from proceeds from the Auxiliary Gift Shop, quilt ticket sales and additional volunteer fundraising activities.

The Auxiliary Quilters also unveiled the 2019 patch, which will be mounted on the hospital main lobby wall along with the other quilt patches from previous years.

The Auxillary also installed its new officers for 2020. They are Wendy Brady-Posjena, president; Judy Scull, vice president; Jim Previte, treasurer; Diane Brown, corresponding secretary; and Betty DeLeon, recording secretary.
