Gynecological Surgery

When a woman has a complication or condition relating to any part of her reproductive system or urinary tract, she may require gynecological surgery. Some may be done during a simple visit to your gynecologist; others might require hospitalization. Some possible surgeries include:

  • Hysteroscopy - telescope-like instrument is inserted into your uterus to aid in IUD removal, diagnosis of multiple miscarriages and other conditions
  • Colonoscopy - nonsurgical diagnosis after an abnormal pap smear
  • Dilation and Curettage (D&C) - removal of the lining of your uterus for treatment of uterine cancer or fibroids, endometrial hyperplasia and other conditions
  • Hysterectomy - removal of your uterus
  • Surgical Oncology- complete and comprehensive assessment and surgical intervention to treat cancers of the female reproductive system

Many of these procedures are done to remove tumors or “precancerous” cells before they turn into tumors; to treat bladder control issues, ovarian cysts, endometriosis or other problems; or simply to further examine a suspected problem.

At Redland Community Hospital we utilize minimally-invasive or laparoscopic surgery, which allows the surgeon access to your body without cutting into it, whenever possible. A hysterectomy, for example, may even be done via robotic surgery. If you need gynecological surgery in Redlands, our women’s health professionals will work together to provide you with the most caring, compassionate and effective treatment.
