REDLANDS, Calif. – Aïda Marini Schneider, an award-winning artist
based in Redlands, finds inspiration from culture and its rapid changes.
On Friday, April 25, Schneider will be one of five artists featured during
the Redlands Community Hospital Foundation’s annual “Evening
with the Artists.”
“The Hospital’s art collection reflects years of work by dedicated
volunteers and staff who have added to and cared for it,” says Schneider.
“This collection spans decades, media and disciplines. Over the
years, I've enjoyed viewing the paintings lining the Hospital's
walls. I'm delighted to have been offered the opportunity to be a
part of this effort."
As a featured artist in several galleries and national art festivals,
Schneider has many years of professional experience and has earned many
awards for her work. The themes underlying her work often use letter shapes,
particularly Arabic calligraphy. These symbols may subsequently be painted
over or become partially or completely hidden. Schneider believes that
all art is autobiographical, regardless of subject. Her technique is direct.
She prefers to apply paint to the gessoed board with no preliminary sketch.
“I have found inspiration and ideas from many sources,” says
Schneider. “Lately I've been paying closer attention to the
spectacular skies and cloud formations at sunrise and sunset. Some of
my paintings in this show reflect that influence.”
Schneider remembers filling her school books with sketches because there
were no art classes available at her school. It was not until after she
was married and had children that she received formal art training. Although
she earned a bachelor’s degree in studio art from University of
California, Irvine, Schneider believes her true training was self-directed.
She has participated in many advanced workshops to expand her painting
skills and learned from artists she admires over the years. Schneider’s
artwork has been featured in multiple publications throughout her career.
Schneider joins local artists Angela Koenig, Martha Cowan, Seung Lee,
and Ray Fedorchak at the annual “Evening with the Artists”
event. Schneider’s artwork will be available for purchase at the
Stan and Ellen Weisser Education Pavilion from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
on Friday, April 25. Proceeds will benefit the Redlands Community Hospital
Foundation’s art fund. Wine and hors d’oeuvres will be served
during the evening’s elegant event. Tickets are $20.
The Foundation’s art program began in 1978 and today, the hospital
exhibits a collection of more than 750 works of original art and historic
photographs in the Redlands Community Art collection.
