*You will receive 12 CEU’s for ACLS Certification (This is a two day class)
The ACLS Certification classes are two full days – if you need an ACLS Re-Certification you must sign up for one of the Re-Certification classes.
The American Heart Association Resource Text Book is Mandatory for the classes. If you register for class using the drop box please be sure to stop by the Education Office before your scheduled class to pick up a textbook. The American Heart Association text book is available for loan as part of your deposit.
Prerequisite for ACLS Class:
Current AHA Healthcare Provider BLS card and a working knowledge of basic
arrhythmia interpretation (BART).
The goal of the 2-day course is to provide the participant with the knowledge
and skills to reduce death and disability for patients who suffer cardiovascular
emergencies such as cardiac arrest, myocardial infarction, or stroke.
The focus of the course is group interaction and teamwork in combination
with written and performance-based exams.
Course Objectives:
Upon completion of this course the participant will be able to:
1. Perform CPR and FBAO for the adult, to American Heart Association Standards.
2. Understand the pharmacology of the “code” drugs of choice
and their appropriate application to a given situation.
3. Recognize potential and actual lethal dysrhythmias and choose the appropriate
algorithm of treatment.
4. Demonstrate safe and correct operational skills with the defibrillator.
5. Demonstrate proficiency, to AHA standards, with the airway adjuncts:
mouth-to-mask, bag valve-mask and endotracheal intubation, with a manikin.
6. Successfully function as a team leader in a Megacode; which includes
dysrhythmia recognition and treatment, patient assessment, supervising
the team and problem solving.
7. Pass the written exam with a score of 84% or greater.
If you fail to attend class or if you do not return the book you will
forfeit your class deposit.
The text book is for sale in the Education Department for $40.00.
The American Heart Association strongly promotes knowledge and proficiency
in all AHA courses and has developed instructional materials for this
purpose. Use of these materials in an educational course does not represent
course sponsorship by the AHA. Any fees charged for such a course, except
for a portion of fees needed for AHA course materials, do not represent
income to the AHA.
