Redlands Community Hospital Foundation Receives $24,000 Grant

REDLANDS, Calif. – The Redlands Community Hospital Foundation has received a $24,000 grant from the Verizon Foundation to upgrade the information systems programs by adding more modern remote technology for hospital physicians.

“This grant upgrades our current system, which enables physicians who are not on the hospital’s campus to obtain health information remotely on their patients,” said Redlands Community Hospital’s director of information systems, Richard Gagnon. “This is part of a long term project that the hospital is undertaking to provide better communication and better healthcare to the community.”

The $24,000 grant will be used to help purchase the Aventail device hardware and communications technology system. With this new device, Redlands Community Hospital physicians will be able to see a patient’s record anytime, day or night, and will provide up-to-date information on a patient’s condition, with the highest security.

Healthcare IT managers and industry experts expect the demand for secure remote access to continue to grow, according to the Aventail website. The entire project is estimated to cost more than $60,000. The hospital will pay for the remainder of the grant to fund the entire upgrade.

“We have more than 200 physicians that will benefit from the Aventail communications system,” adds Gagnon. “The new communications technology is safe, controlled, and part of a secure environment that meets federal and state privacy laws.”
